With a new owner, Mimi Garcia, comes a new look and new services.
The salon once known as Neva's Salon is now Mimi's Salon and Garcia's family has been busy giving it a facelift for the past week.
The exterior has received a fresh coat of paint and the interior is also slowly undergoing a few changes.
Garcia said she officially opens the salon today (Tuesday). She will be providing services for walk-in clients, as well as by appointment.
Becky Hilderbrand will continue serving longtime clients of the former salon.
Garcia, the former manager of Fantastic Sams in Sunnyside, has been a stylist for approximately 16 years. "I was manager of Fantastic Sams for seven-and-a-half years before it closed," she said.
As to how Garcia heard the salon was available for purchase, she said her aunt is friends of former owner Joyce Wyckoff and learned of its availability.
Garcia said she has always wanted to own a salon and the opportunity presented itself.
She will be cutting, styling, coloring and perming hair at the salon. She said she serves men, women and children.
"I don't think clients of Neva's included men," said Garcia.
She said her specialty is coloring and highlights.
Garcia said her hope is to build a new clientele at the locations. "I also don't think they used to serve walk-in clients," she said, stating she accepts walk-ins.
In addition, Garcia said, she will have monthly service specials and a monthly drawing for services offered at the salon. "They will be different each month," she said.
Men's haircuts will regularly cost $10, children's cuts cost $8 and women's cuts are offered for $13 and up, depending on the length of the hair.
Mimi's Salon is open Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Appointments can be made by calling 837-3022.
