Bickleton athletes return in top form

GOLDENDALE - Bickleton joined Granger, LaSalle, Zillah and Goldendale high schools yesterday (Tuesday). Bickleton, a 1B track team, was scored independently against the other teams at the 1A league track meet.

Coming off spring break, Bickleton Coach Darrell Lang said he was pleased with the performances of his athletes.

Nic Venema earned two first place finishes at the meet, including one in the pole vault (11 ft) and another in the 300m hurdles (45.57).

Lang says Venema barely edged out Goldendale's Brady Conway (45.66) on the last hurdle to claim the win.

Venema also earned second place honors in the 110m high hurdles, finishing in 17.43 seconds.

Also recording second place finishes at the meet was the Bickleton boys 4x400 relay team, which included Bobby Franklin, Peter Clinton, Mitchell Powers and Taylor Brown. They finished the race in 4:05.43.

Powers also finished second in the high jump with his 5-06 leap.

Clinton went on to place third in the 800m run (2:18.50), while Justin Roberts also garnered third place honors in the pole vault (10 feet).

Earning fourth place honors at the meet was Clinton in the pole vault (9 feet).

Harvey finished fifth in the javelin (117 feet), so did Brown in the high jump (5-02).

Bickleton's girls also put in a strong showing against the 1A teams.

Katelynn Clinton, Jenna Mount, Jamie Venema and Aymie Osborne finished the 4x100 in 56.12 to earn first place honors at the track meet.

Clinton also earned first place honors in the discus with a 107-foot throw.

Jamie Venema earned three second place finishes at the meet, in the pole vault (6-06), high jump (4-04) and 200m run (28.98).

Mount also earned second place honors in the 100m with a 13.95 time.

Finishing third for the Bickleton team were Christina Wilson in the 1600m (6:31.62), Osborne in the high jump (4-02) and the girls 4x400 relay team. These runners, who included Clinton, Fanny Schneider, Wilson and Mount, finished their race in 5:01.68.

Fourth place finishers included Osborne in the 100m hurdles (20.66) and the 4x200 relay team (2:03.64), which included Clinton, Mount, Schneider and Osbore.

Haley Goodnight was the only fifth place finisher for the Bickleton team at the meet. She threw 74-07 in the discus.
