Contestants sought for Miss American Cinco de Mayo Pageant

This year there will be a Miss American Cinco de Mayo Pageant at Sunnyside's annual Cinco de Mayo festival and contestants are being sought.

The pageant is open to any female, without ethnic consideration, between the ages of 17 and 24-years-old.

Patricia Combs and the staff at Sunnyside Ear, Nose and Throat have organized the event to coincide with the local Cinco de Mayo festival.

She said the winner of the pageant will represent the festival and is not required to attend other events, ribbon cuttings or parades.

The grand prize of a crown, title and scholarship will be awarded based on points awarded in an interview (50 possible), evening gown and poise segment (15 points) and talent portion (35 possible points) of the pageant.

Contestants must be a U.S. citizen; be in high school, college or planning to attend college; must NOT be married, pregnant, have children or have a felony criminal record.

Each contestant must understand and accept the requirements and rules of the program.

There is no entry fee to participate in the program and there may be prizes for runner-up contestants.

Entry forms can be picked up at Sunnyside Ear, Nose and Throat (2925 Allen Road); Fiesta Foods, the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce Office (South Sixth Street and East Edison Avenue) or the Daily Sun News office (600 South Sixth Street).

Applications can be dropped off at Sunnyside Ear, Nose and Throat. They will be accepted until Friday, April 29.
