TOPPENISH - Freshman Matthew Dailey turned in the lowest round for Grandview in a three-team CWAC boys golf match this past Tuesday at Toppenish's Mt. Adams Country Club.
Dailey toured the par-72 course with an 18-hole round of 113. He opened with a 65 on the front nine, but shaved 17 strokes off that total after the clubhouse turn, tallying a 48 on the closing nine.
The host Wapato Wolves, behind medalist K.C. Frazier's 17-over-par 89, won top team honors at the competition. The Wolfpack shot an aggregate team score of 418. Grandview was second with a score of 495. Toppenish, with only two players available on Tuesday, brought up the rear with an incomplete score.
Besides the 113 carded by Dailey, Grandview got individual rounds of 125, 125 and 132 from Justin Murbach, Robert Lemos and Dylan Parker, respectively. Also competing for the 'Hounds, although his round wasn't applied to the team score, was Sean Charvet, who shot a 133.
In posting Grandview's lowest round on the day, the freshman Dailey had the Greyhounds' one and only par registered during the 18 holes of play. He parred Mt. Adams' 14th hole, a par-4, 389-yard layout that plays straight as a string with no hazards along the way. Dailey also had bogeys on five of the back nine holes, including a three-hole stretch from 16 to 18.
