SELAH - Maybe it was because it was her birthday, or maybe she's just great at keeping her shots below the wind gusts...either way Grandview's Kayla Lucas turned in the round of her life yesterday.
Competing at the Highland Girls Golf Invitational, Lucas toured the par-71 SunTides Golf Course with a 112. It's her career best 18-hole round, and it came in windy conditions.
Grandview Coach Doug Veach said the round was especially notable for Lucas, considering it occurred on her birthday.
Lucas was the only member of the GHS girls golf team who competed at Thursday's invite.
Veach noted that Alex Riojas from neighboring Prosser also carded a career best at the tourney, when she posted a 91 on her scorecard.
Veach, this morning, said he didn't yet have tourney results available to pass on to the media, but it's believed Goldendale freshman Bree Wanderscheid claimed medalist honors at the invite with an 11-over-par 82.
