Robbery reported at Sunnyside grocery store

A woman leaving Fiesta Foods this past Saturday was allegedly robbed just after 6 p.m. She told Sunnyside police she was walking out of the grocery store when a man in a blue shirt and baggy pants accosted her. He was witnessed leaving the scene in a blue vehicle with another subject. Police apprehended the suspect, identified as Guadalupe Renteria, 26, and requested he be charged with third degree theft.

Also reported to Sunnyside police since last Friday were a shots fired call, a weapon offense, a burglary and six thefts.

The shots fired call was received yesterday (Sunday) just after 4 p.m. A caller in the area of North 10th Street and Barnes Court reported hearing a couple of gunshots. Police were unable to locate evidence of gunfire in the area.

A resident in the 200 block of West Holstein Avenue Saturday just after 9 p.m. reported her home had been broken into. It appeared, she said, the suspect(s) broke through her front door and stole her brother's computer.

Of the thefts reported to police two were shoplifting incidents, one was a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe stolen from the 400 block of Yakima Valley Highway and another was of unknown items taken from a resident in the 500 block of McClain Drive. The Tahoe owner called police two times.

The weapon offense was reported last Friday at Sunnyside High School.

Sunnyside police officers have also since last Friday responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call, four automatic alarms, a report of an assault, six domestic violence calls, 11 suspicious activity calls, nine traffic calls and a report of an individual in violation of a no-contact order. Officers have also provided six agency assists and served two arrest warrants, as well as a court order.
