After a cooling trend over the past several months, the Sunnyside area is in for near normal temperatures for the month of August.
That's according to the National Weather Service, which notes that normal highs here in August are 89 degrees, while normal lows are 54.7 degrees. The normal precipitation for August is .30 inches.
The trend towards normal is a contrast to last month, which was the coldest July ever for the Sunnyside area.
According to preliminary data received by the National Weather Service, July temperatures in Sunnyside averaged 66 degrees, which was 6.8 degrees below normal. The previous record for coldest average termperatures in Sunnyside was recorded back in 1903.
The average high temperature in July was 82.4 degrees, seven degrees below normal. In July, the mercury reached a high for the month of 93 degrees on July 7.
Low temperatures here in July averaged 49.6 degrees, which was 6.7 degrees below normal. The lowest was 42 degrees, on July 1.
On three days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees during the month of July.
Precipitation totaled .18 inches during July, which was .01 inch below normal. Measurable precipitation - at least .01 inch - was received on three days, with the heaviest, .10 inches, reported on July 26.
Precipitation this year has reached 4.28 inches, .78 inches above normal the National Weather Service reports.
Since October 2010, the water year precipitation at Sunnyside has been 8.29 inches, which is 2.40 inches above normal.
