PASCO - A two-vehicle accident last night on the Hwy. 395 Blue Bridge near Pasco had all the makings for a major tragedy. Luckily, the people who were involved only sustained minor injuries.
One of those who walked away with just scrapes was 20-year-old Ivan Sandoval of Sunnyside.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Sandoval was driving a 1995 GMC Jimmy northbound on Hwy. 395 at about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday evening. WSP troopers say a 1997 Jeep Cherokee approached Sandoval's vehicle from behind at a high rate of speed, striking the GMC in the rear.
The rear-end collision caused the GMC Jimmy to overturn. The driver of the Jeep Cherokee fled the scene of the crash.
WSP troopers report that the Pasco police later took into custody the driver of the Jeep that caused the accident, identified as Zenon J. Simiano, 29, of Kennewick. Charges against Simiano, who reportedly did not suffer any injuries, are pending.
Sandoval had two children in his vehicle at the time of the mishap...Damyan Johnson, 9, and Analy Johnson, 8, both of Kennewick. All three only sustained minor injuries and did not require transportation to a medical facility, according to the WSP.
Both vehicles have officially been listed as totaled as a result of the collision.
