Sunnyside gang unit actively serving arrest warrants here

Since yesterday (Tuesday) six arrest warrants have been served by Sunnyside police.

The increase in warrants being served is the result of a now active gang unit, according to officials, who said the gang unit was first activated yesterday.

As a result of the warrants being served yesterday, officials said there were up to four individuals arrested.

Also since yesterday a gun was reportedly seen being waved by a young male in the 1500 block of East Lincoln Avenue just before 7 p.m. Police were unable to locate the suspect, nor the large group with which he was walking.

Two burglaries and a theft have also been reported to police. A resident in the 800 block of East Custer Avenue yesterday reported evidence of a burglary attempt. No items were reported stolen. Another resident in the 300 block of East Yakima Valley Highway reported this morning just before 8 a.m. finding a broken window at her place of business. She reported several items stolen.

Items from a vehicle in the 500 block of South Sixth Street were also reported stolen this morning just before 8 a.m.

Officers have also since yesterday responded to four automatic alarms, three animal complaints, two assaults, a domestic violence incident, a graffiti report, a runaway juvenile report, two suspicious activity calls and four traffic stops. Police, too, provided three agency assists, a citizen assist, recovered a stolen vehicle and fielded an informational call.
