Accident update reveals child sustained worst injuries

GRANGER - The Washington State Patrol made a correction to its earlier press memo, stating that it was the passenger in the 1998 Nissan Maxima that sustained the worst injuries in a one-vehicle rollover accident this past Tuesday morning.

In the updated report, WSP troopers say it was the 3-year-old infant who was taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, then flown to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center. The Sunnyside child was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident, according to the WSP statement.

The driver of the four-door sedan was Esperanza Guizar-Sanchez, 26, of Sunnyside. She was not taken to Harborview as earlier reported. Her injuries were treated by medical staff at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Guizar-Sanchez was wearing a seatbelt, according to the WSP.

The rollover accident occurred about one mile north of Granger on Beam Road, at about 5:30 a.m. this past Tuesday morning.
