Sunnyside High School student Jazmine Sanchez wants to be 2011-12 Miss Sunnyside.

She feels she has the skills and determination to fulfill the duties of Sunnyside's ambassador.

"Miss Sunnyside must be a responsible role model, attend different community's important to be involved in the community and this is a positive way to be involved," said Sanchez.

She is the daughter of Tony Sanchez Jr. and Tammy Saunders and has eight siblings.

Sanchez plans to work with the National Marrow Donor program, if selected as Miss Sunnyside.

She wants to promote awareness of the program.

"More people need to be aware of the need for bone marrow donors," said Sanchez.

She has had several family members who have been afflicted with cancer, some of whom had leukemia.

"Bone marrow transplants save the lives of many cancer patients, who may not otherwise survive," said Sanchez, stating leukemia is not the only cancer for which bone marrow transplants are used for treatment.

She wants to help register community members for the bone marrow donor program, possibly helping save the lives of those who are in need.

Helping others who are in need of medical care is a lifetime goal of Sanchez. She wants to pursue a career as an OB/GYN.

"I want to get my degree at the University of Washington so I can help women with their pregnancies and the delivery of their babies," she said.

For the Miss Sunnyside Pageant, Sanchez plans to perform a lyrical jazz dance routine to the song "Stereo Love" by Edward Maya and Vika Jigulina.

"It's a song I felt is expressive. I want to express myself through the music in a positive way," said Sanchez.

She has been a member of the SHS dance team and enjoys the way in which a body can interpret music.

This coming year, as a junior at Sunnyside High School, Sanchez will not be on the dance team, but has plans to become involved in other activities.

"I enjoy athletics," she said.

For this year's pageant, slated for Saturday, Sept. 17, Sanchez's sponsors are Sunnyside Community Hospital, Airport Ranch and DaVita.
