Regino Vasquez Soto, 86, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011, at Hillcrest Manor, surrounded by his loving family.

Regino was born Sept. 7, 1924 in Coahuila, Mexico to Genaro and Maria (Vasquez) Soto.

On March 28, 1942, he married Martina Sanchez.

After the death of an infant daughter, the couple moved to the U.S., where Regino worked all over the Northwest and as far east as Michigan.

He was a very creative and innovative person. As a young man he worked in a glass factory and tile factory. In 1958 the couple settled in Sunnyside, where Regino worked for Newhouse Hop Farms.

He was an extremely hard working man and always expected his children to be good and go to church.

He was a devoted husband, taking care of his beloved Martina for 44 years until she passed away in 2008.

Regino loved going to rodeos and watch boxing.

He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren and he was ever so proud of his green grass and flowers.

Regino was truly loved and respected by all of his children and their families.

He is survived by his children, Margarita (Jesus) Gonzalez, Natalia (Juan) Gonzalez and Genero (Berta) Soto, all of Sunnyside, Juan G. (Noelia) Soto of Toppenish, Juanita S. (Art) Ramirez of Yakima, Consuelo (Shawn) Murphy of Richland, Pablo Soto of Kennewick, Martina S. (Chris Ray) and Jesse Soto, all of Spokane. Regino also left behind 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Roman, Viviano, Manuel, Thomasa, Rojelia, Nieves and Maria.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Martina Soto; and two daughters, Teresa and Dolores Soto.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 15, 2011, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
