Aurora Cano, 82, of Sunnyside, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, left this world peacefully to await that glorious day when the trumpet sounds and the dead in Christ shall rise first.
Aurora was born Dec. 22, 1928 in Mission, Texas to Felipe and Margarita (Camacho) Vasquez. When she was very young the family moved to Mexico. Later in her youth she returned to Texas then moved to Washington, where she met Clemente Cano Sr. and was won over by his loving and attentive nature. They lived in the Lower Valley, finally settling in Sunnyside, where they would lovingly raise three generations of family together until Clemente passed away on June 29, 1998.
After Clemente's passing, Aurora became the glue that held our family together; family gatherings always took place at Grama's house, the house that we could always come "home" to no matter how far life took us.
Aurora will always be remembered as "Lil Grandma," known for her devotion to God and to her family, her authentic Mexican cooking and the blankets she sewed with love for her great-grandchildren. She shared a very special bond with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We will remember her love for God, His word and her desire to always serve in church. She along with Clemente were founding members of La Rosa de Saron in Outlook until 1992.
At the time of her passing she was a member of La Nueva Jerusalem in Grandview. We are blessed to have had her as our prayer warrior all these years.
Aurora was preceded in death by and joins her husband, Clemente Cano Sr. in leaving behind a legacy in their children, Silverio (Tamra) Cano, Clemente Cano Jr., Janie Cano and Adam Cano, all of Sunnyside and Viola Hermosillo of Grandview; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Hope Munoz, Avoree and Madison Bell of Sunnyside, Liz Munoz, Rikki, Shaniah, and Andrew Verduzco of Grandview, Marie (Ross) Tucker, Eli, Lucas, and Isaac Tucker of Moses Lake, Jeremy Cano and Christa Cano of Sunnyside.
The family would like to thank the following for their care, compassion and friendship: Dr. Gloria Abacan, Dr. Michael Gawlik, special nurses Agnes Abacan and Maria Saenz, Lower Valley Hospice service's Kathy Sartain, Pam Meeker and staff.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, from 4 to 8 pm at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside..
