Juanita Alvarado, 93, of Mabton went to be in the arms of her Savior on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011.

Juanita was born May 25, 1918 in Jimenez, Tamps, Mexico.

On Dec. 12, 1940 she married Pedro Alvarado. The Alvarado family lived in Progreso, Texas and later moved to Mabton in 1961.

Juanita was an active member of the Iglesia El Calvario in Sunnyside, where she was a deaconess and part of the women ministries for many years. She also attended the Mabton Assembly of God Church.

Juanita loved making all kinds of crafts to share with her family and friends.

She is survived by seven children, Esther (Moises) Estrada and Delfia (Isai) Quiñonez, all of California, Rev. Frank (Evangelina) Alvarado of Texas, Mike (Amelia) Alvarado, Lucy (Eduardo) Adame, Pedro (Gloria) Alvarado Jr. and Dollie (Dave) Casas, all of Washington; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Angelita De La Fuente and Trinidad De La Fuente, both of Mexico; and one brother, Homobono De La Fuente of Mexico.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Alvarado; and three sons, Tony, Efrain and Guadalupe Alvarado.

Viewing and visitation will be held today, Aug. 30, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at the Mabton Cemetery.
