Local lawmakers invite public to telephone town hall

Reps. Bruce Chandler and David Taylor are inviting local residents of the 15th District, which includes the Lower Valley, to participate in a telephone town hall meeting this Thursday, Dec. 8.

The hour-long event, which is like a call-in radio show, will begin at 6:35 p.m. To participate, call 1-877-229-8493 and enter 15540.

The format will allow callers to ask questions of the lawmakers and take part in poll questions.

"The decisions we make today will impact all Washingtonians for years to come," said Chandler, R-Granger. "We'd like to hear the thoughts and opinions of those in the 15th Legislative District as we debate these issues with our colleagues in the Legislature."

Taylor, R-Moxee, added, "We look forward to answering questions and exchanging ideas on the economy, our state's budget shortfall or any other areas of interest."

If constituents have questions before the events, they can contact Chandler at (360) 786-7960 or bruce.chandler@leg.wa.gov.

Taylor can be reached at (360) 786-7874 or david.taylor@leg.wa.gov.

The special session began Nov. 28 and is scheduled to run 30 days. Gov. Chris Gregoire called the special session to address the state's $2 billion budget shortfall.

The 60-day regular legislative session is set to start Jan. 8, 2012.
