Sunnyside High School is starting a new tradition with this coming Saturday's home basketball games against Kennewick.
The school is offering SHS parents free admission to the boys and girls games if their child accompanies them and displays a valid ASB card at the door.
"We want to introduce to the community what's happening at the high school," said Athletic Director Bill Daley. "We have so many kids involved in activities that night, basketball, dance team, rally squad, pep band and we want to connect with the community."
Daley said it's the start of what will be an annual "parent night" tradition of giving parents free admission with their children on the first basketball doubleheader of each season in which all of the SHS hoop teams are playing.
"Hopefully it will encourage people and their kids to get involved in the school," Daley said. "It's a good opportunity to extend goodwill to our parents and create a family atmosphere."
In the big picture, he said the parent night is part of a vision for having SHS be "a positive place." Daley added, "We want it to be a common place for people to meet, a family night out."
