NACHES - The Lady Vikings came home from Naches with a victory over the Rangers last night, winning 57-48.
For the Mabton girls basketball team it marks the first time this season the Lady Vikes have won back-to-back games. The non-league victory improves Mabton's overall record to 3-6.
Three girls scored in double digits. Jazzee Sustaita led the team with 18 points, going 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
"She attacked the rim, shot when she when she was open and had a lot better effort tonight," said Coach Chris McCallum.
Cassidy McCallum put in 11 points for the team, and Alyssa Nash contributed another 10 points.
Mabton went 9-for-14 from the free throw line as a team, which Coach McCallum said was closer to their goal. But the Lady Vikings were beat 44 to 36 in rebounds.
"We have got to get better on the rebounding and turnovers," said McCallum. Mabton coughed up the ball 23 times.
The Lady Vikings were up 49-28 going into the fourth quarter. McCallum said he gave some of his best players a rest. "I'm not going to run up the score," he said. "But we've got to finish games better than (getting outscored) 20-8 in the fourth."
Overall McCallum was pleased with his team's effort.
"We're starting to get better," he said. "We're getting things clicking. We're into league games soon, we we're clicking at the right time."
Mabton next plays at Royal on Jan. 6 and faces Kiona-Benton at home on Jan. 7.
