At about 4:30 p.m. yesterday (Monday) a motorist passing Sunnyside's Central Park witnessed a group of juveniles there. One of the youngsters held what he believed was a gun. The witness called police, reporting what he saw. He told officers he was not certain if the weapon was a toy or if it was real.
Officers investigating the call found several juveniles involved in a fight. A toy gun was found on one of the juveniles, said Sunnyside Police Public Information Officer Charlotte Hinderlider.
Also reported to police was a shoplifting incident at about 2:30 a.m. this morning, at a convenience store in the 1800 block of South First Street.
Sunnyside police have also responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call, five automatic alarms, five animal problems, two disorderly conduct incidents, a report of graffiti, a report of harassing text messages, three juvenile problems, four runaway juvenile reports, four suspicious activity calls, two traffic calls and a report of vandalism. Four informational calls were made to police, and officers served three arrest warrants, as well as provided two citizen assists.
