Rice ninth at bowling tournament

CONNELL - Sunnyside's Rob Rice garnered a ninth-place finish at last Sunday's Central Washington Open bowling tournament, staged at Connell's Town & Country Lanes.

Rice earned the No. 11 seed into the 16-person trophy round. In the four-game finals, he moved up two spots to ninth.

From among a field of 52 bowlers, most of whom average 190 or better in league play, Rice had the 11th highest pinfall in the six-game qualifying block. For those six games he averaged 220, his highest game being a 245 and his lowest a 195.

In placing ninth, Rice won a cash award of $140.

Sunday's Central Washington Open winner proved to be Kennewick's Jeff Britton. He earned a payout of $530.

Rice was one of five Lower Yakima Valley bowlers competing in Connell this past Sunday. The other four included Derek Colley, 32nd place (206-194-202-203-175-219); Tanner Schaneman, 41st place (156-192-201-237-193-180); Stacee Isaac, 47th place (225-173-164-192-155-153); and Brandon Rice, 52nd place (174-160-188-170-195-129).
