Yesterday (Tuesday) just after 3:30 p.m. Sunnyside police responded to a hit and run accident call in the 1100 block of South 11th Street. Witnesses at the scene told officers a man driving a brown pick-up rammed his vehicle into a white pick-up. The suspect allegedly got out of his vehicle, brandished a sword and began swinging it at another man before running from the accident scene.
The suspect was located and apprehended. He has been identified as 25-year-old Dale G. Robertson of Sunnyside. Requested charges of assault first degree and two counts of assault second degree have been forwarded to the prosecutor, according to police.
The victim, a 27-year-old Sunnyside man, was not injured and defended himself with a machete.
Police believe the altercation occurred due to a severed friendship from years ago.
Also, a stereo was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 100 block of Parkland Drive yesterday at about 12:30 p.m.
Officers have also since yesterday responded to a 9-1-1 hang-up call, two animal problems, two assaults, two reports of disorderly conduct and six traffic calls. Police served three arrest warrants, received three informational calls, provided an agency assist and two citizen assists, as well as received a report of an individual in violation of a court order.
