Antonio H. Gutierrez, 82, a longtime Mabton resident passed away on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Emerald Care Convalescent Center in Wapato.

Antonio was born April 6, 1928 in Bryon, Texas, the son of Luis and Eduvijes (Herrera) Gutierrez.

Antonio was raised and received his education in Salamanca, Gto. Mexico.

He with his family moved to the Yakima Valley in the 1950s. Antonio settled in the Mabton area, where he raised his family and worked as a mechanic for various hop farmers.

He enjoyed fishing, music, hunting, camping, traveling and the ocean.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside.

Antonio is survived by four daughters, Betty (Harold) Garcia of Chicago, Edie G. (Ricardo) Rocha of Mabton, Sophia G. (Antonio) Sotelo of Mabton and Sarah G. (Brian) Gott of Terrace Heights, Yakima; three sons, Luis Gutierrez of Chicago, Carlos Santos of Kyle, Texas and Antonio C. (Norma) Gutierrez Jr. of Prosser; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Consuelo Gutierrez of Mabton; and two brothers, Francisco Gutierrez of McAllen, Texas and Jose Luis Gutierrez of Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one brother.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Mabton Cemetery.

Smith Funeral Home LTD and Crematory in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
