SHS Grizzly dance team 'best in show' at Kamiakin dance competition

KENNEWICK - The Sunnyside High School dance team competed at the Kamiakin Dance Competition this past Saturday and scored a first place finish in the hiphop category.

The Grizzly dance team scored 261 points in hiphop. The team also placed sixth in the pom category with 208 points and sixth in the dance competition with 200 points.

Besides the first and two sixth-place finishes, the Grizzly dance team was presented with the judge's choice for Best Showmanship and the overall winner trophy, as well, for compiling the highest score of the entire competition, which was the team's 261 points in hiphop.

The Grizzly dance team already qualified for Districts back in December and will compete there on Saturday, March 5, at Southridge High School. The team will compete in the categories of pom, hiphop and dance.

Grizzly Dance Coach Melodie Griffin said her team will need to score 210 points or better in each routine to qualify for the State competition, which will take place on Friday, March 25, at the Yakima SunDome.
