A 23-year-old Outlook man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the murder of 14-year-old Francisca Ramirez-Hernandez in October of 2008.
Jesus Fabian Perales was sentenced yesterday (Thursday) to life imprisonment without the possibility of release or parole. Perales was also given a 24-month deadly weapon enhancement, but was credited for time served in the Yakima County Jail.
Perales was found guilty on Jan. 12 of this year of murdering Ramirez-Hernandez of Sunnyside.
According to a sheriff's report, Ramirez-Hernandez was at a party in Outlook where she was consuming alcohol and playing cards with five other males, including Perales. According to Miguel Flores, a witness to the crime, he had sex with Ramirez-Hernandez and then later on the 14-year-old girl had sex with another male.
Flores said the girl appeared to be unconscious when he found her in a bathroom and her clothing was askew. After Flores helped her straighten out her clothing, they both walked back into the dining area of the home they were at and saw Perales arguing with Isaac Perales, who Flores said had just had sex with Ramirez-Hernandez. According to Flores, Isaac Perales left the home and he and Jesus Fabian Perales helped Ramirez-Hernandez into a vehicle.
According to Flores' testimony, at one point the 14-year-old girl woke up and started yelling that Isaac Perales had raped her and that she was going to report it to the police. At this point, Flores said Jesus Fabian Perales became enraged, telling him he was going to leave the girl in an orchard to sleep off her drunkenness.
Instead, according to Flores, Perales removed the girl from the vehicle and cut her throat, leaving her to bleed to death. She was found more than three months later in the Yakima River near Prosser. She was identified through dental records.
Perales fled the state and was believed to have been hiding in California. He eventually returned to the Outlook area. Police arrested him after receiving a tip of his whereabouts.
