The Port of Sunnyside has for the 12th year in a row been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The award is given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for comprehensive annual financial reports.
The recognition, according to the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, "is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting."
Carol Carter is the finance officer and treasurer for the Port of Sunnyside. Although the award is in her name, she credits the Port of Sunnyside for the achievement.
"It's a climate from the commissioners on down of always wanting to do things the right way...they (the commissioners) are responsible for setting the climate that shows in this award as well as other achievements," she said.
Carter has been reporting the Port of Sunnyside's financial records for six of the 12 years this award has been received.
An impartial panel of judges annually reviews financial reports of government entities, examining the "constructive spirit of full disclosure" of those agencies, according to Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, a non-profit profession association with offices in Chicago, Ill. and Washington, D.C.
