Juanita Sanchez Salazar, 81, of Sunnyside passed away on Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Nov. 27, 1929 in Villagran Tamaulipas, Mexico to Epitacio Sanchez and Francisca Lara.

On Sept. 18, 1951 she married Margarito Mendez Salazar in Matamores Tamaulipas, Mexico.

In 1959 they moved to the Valley settling in Sunnyside, where they together raised a family.

Juanita enjoyed gardening, family gathering, dancing and music.

She cherished her family and enjoyed time spent with all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Margarito Salazar of Sunnyside; her sons, Margarito Salazar Jr. and Jose (JoAnn) Salazar, all of Sunnyside; daughters, Josie Macias (Santos Alvarez), Aurora (Guadalupe) Meraz, Ofelia Salazar Sanchez, Rosalinda Salazar, Lucinda (Pedro) Perez and Amalia Salazar, all of Sunnyside; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Teresa Salazar; brothers; sisters; and two great-grandsons, Joshua Gonzalez and Damien Amaro.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, from 2 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside.
