Sunnyside man named Aflac's top salesman

Jaime Perez, an independent Aflac salesman in Sunnyside, was named the Aflac Top Associate of the Year for eastern Washington and northern Idaho for his overall performance in 2010.

"I'm pretty proud of it," Perez said of the honor. "I plan on doing it again next year."

Alfac is a supplemental insurance company and Perez sells all kinds of policies, such as accident, life insurance and dental, to name a few.

Perez, who originally hails from Texas, said he came to the Lower Valley in 1996 and settled in Prosser. He then went to work as a car salesman and continued that line of work until December of 2008.

Perez was originally recruited by an Aflac representative in 2004 but it wasn't until the recession hit the car industry that Perez made his move. It seems it was the right one.

"I'm a goal setter," he said. "I set my goals and then I try to hit them."

Perez sold his first policy for Aflac on Dec. 2, 2009 and did so well his first year as an Aflac supplemental insurance salesman that he was named Rookie of the Year.

It took the first couple of months in 2010 before Perez started topping the monthly sales but once he did, he never looked back. Perez held the top monthly position for the rest of the year and that catapulted him to the No. 1 overall salesman for 2010.

His performance in selling Aflac insurance has earned him other rewards from his company. Alfac has sent him on trips to Mazatlan, the state of Georgia and the Bahamas. Next May Aflac will reward Perez with a trip to Puerto Vallarta.

Currently, Perez is in the process of setting his goals for 2011.
