YAKIMA - The Selah High School girls bowling team claimed its second 3-1 victory of the season over Sunnyside in a head-to-head match yesterday at Yakima's Minda Lanes.
The Vikings scored the win, despite a match-best, 329 two-game series rolled by Sunnyside's Johanna Chumley. Only a freshman, Chumley opened with a 169. She tossed a 160 in game two.
The top two-game series recorded by a Selah bowler was Samantha Smith's 312 (152-160).
Selah opened Tuesday's match by scoring a 773-671 win. Taylor Jones led the Viking charge in the opener by rolling a 173. Also contributing in the victory were Ashley Anderson with a 160, Liz Baze with a 159, Smith with a 152 and Mikayla Ball with a 129.
The individual scores for Sunnyside in the first contest were a 169 by Chumley, a 139 by YaYa Gonzalez, a 137 by Amanda Villarreal and a pair of 113's by Larisa Sagarnaga and Sandra Ramirez.
The Lady Grizzly keglers evened the match at one-all by taking game two, 696-680. Chumley's 160 was the top individual effort for Sunnyside in that contest. The Lady Grizzlies also got a pair of 150's from Sagarnaga and Ramirez in the victory, as well as a 132 from Villarreal and a 104 from Gonzalez.
Smith's 160 was the best individual score for Selah in game two. The other Viking efforts in game two included a 148 by Ball, a 137 by Anderson, a 128 by Baze and a 107 by Jones.
Selah secured the overall team victory by winning both Baker games, 144-108 and 151-98. In Baker bowling, each member of the five-girl team alternates taking shots throughout the 10-frame match.
The SHS Lady Grizzly bowling team (1-9) is scheduled to host the Davis Pirates this coming Thursday at Sunnyside's Valley Lanes.
