Donations for the homeless sought for Point in Time survey

Project Homeless Connect will once again take place in conjunction with the seventh annual Point In Time Survey Thursday, Jan. 27, in Yakima and Sunnyside.

The Homeless Network of Yakima County coordinates the events and is looking for donations to help support them. Currently there is a great need for clothing, shoes, blankets, backpacks and duffle bags, as well as personal hygiene items. All donations can be dropped off at the Sunnyside Community Center.

The project is a service fair designed to help connect people who are homeless with services currently available to them and it takes place during the Point in Time Survey, an annual count of people who are homeless in Yakima County.

Last year more than 500 people attended the Project Homeless Connect events in Yakima and Sunnyside. Attendees received services such as health and dental screenings, haircuts, free phone calls, a hot meal and care packages.
