BICKLETON - Last night the 1B Lady Pirates varsity squad had a difficult task ahead of them as they competed against the 1A Zillah Leopards' JV team.
Zillah added four varsity players to the roster and started the game with a 12-11 lead.
In the second quarter, the Leopards outrebounded Bickleton, which afforded them second and third chance opportunities at scoring.
The Zillah JV squad led the game 41-27 at halftime.
"Ultimately it was the second quarter that sealed the game," said Lady Pirates Coach Emily Barnhart.
Try as they might in the third quarter, Bickleton still wasn't able to outscore the visiting team. Zillah outscored the Lady Pirates 12-11 to open the second half.
The fourth quarter was tied with 10 points each, giving the Leopards a 63-48 victory.
"Our free throw percentage was very low during the game, which held us to a lower score than we would have liked," commented Barnhart.
"All-in-all it was a good learning experience, again, for our team to play a solid 1A team," she said.
Bickleton's Katelynn Clinton scored 31 points and had 27 boards for a double-double. Teammate Aymie Osborne scored nine points.
Monica Villegas of the Leopards led her team to the victory with 25 points. Teammate Lexi Patterson scored 11.
Tonight (Friday) the Lady Pirates (1-1, 5-3) will try to pick up the pieces as they compete in league play at home against Klickitat.
