BICKLETON - After coming off a loss to the Zillah JV team, the Bickleton Lady Pirates dusted themselves off and secured a 51-40 victory over the Klickitat Vandals in 1B league play last Friday.
"The (Bickleton) girls controlled the game from the very beginning and worked to continue controlling the ball," said Lady Pirates Coach Emily Barnhart.
Bickleton outscored the Vandals by one point in the opening quarter. They picked up the pace and outscored Klickitat 15-10 to improve the lead to 23-17 at halftime.
"Our press was great, causing 35 turnovers for Klickitat," said Barnhart, stating the game was important to the Lady Pirates.
She said her team wanted to "play well and finish the game on top."
Bickleton did just that, tossing in 12 points in the third quarter and 16 in the final to finish the game with 51 points. Klickitat scored 11 and 12 points, in the two final quarters.
"(The Lady Pirates) did a great job winning this game," said Barnhart.
Leading Bickleton to the victory were Katelynn Clinton and Aymie Osborne with 25 and 20 points, respectively. Clinton grabbed the ball from the glass 13 times and teammate Jenna Mount provided six assists.
For Klickitat, Samantha Brewer scored 19 points.
