OTHELLO - The Grandview Greyhounds faced the Othello Huskies Thursday evening in a dog fight that ended with a 40-29 loss for Grandview's wrestlers.
Regardless of the score, Coach Jeff Sevigny says that the match was very close and the wrestlers kept the crowd on the edge of their seats the whole way through.
"The whole meet was just an exciting event," Sevigny said. "Everybody wrestled well - even the guys who lost wrestled well."
Grandview had six wrestlers who defeated their Othello counterparts in the meet. In the 130-lb. weight class, David Castaneda, won by technical fall. He defeated his opponent, Othello's Levi Garza, 20-5.
Also defeating their Othello opponents were Fidel Medina (103 lbs.) and Stevie Rodriguez (112 lbs.).
Medina wrestled Othello's Isaiah Barrera and won by a 12-5 decision, while Rodriguez defeated Anthony Barrera 6-3.
Joesiah Saunders pinned his opponent, Brandon Medina, in 1:13 to win the 135-lb. weight class for Grandview.
His teammates, Alex Soberanes (125 lbs.) and Martin Torres (285 lbs.), also pinned their Othello rivals. Soberanes pinned Colton Rodriguez in 4:40, while Bubba Ruiz was pinned by Torres in 5:07.
Grandview will finish out the regular season next week starting on Tuesday, Jan. 25. The Greyhounds will face the East Valley Red Devils in a home meet that night, then will host Wapato on Thursday and trek to Zillah on Friday.
