BICKLETON - The Bickleton High School boys basketball team played Sunnyside's C squad yesterday (Thursday) and came away with a 46-39 win.
Both teams played a good game, but Bickleton Coach Jerry Roberts said his team had several good elements working for it during the game.
Bickleton player Bobby Franklin's tally 12 rebounds was one highlight of the game, said Roberts. All together, his team out rebounded the Sunnyside team 40-33.
The game started strong for Bickleton, scoring 26 points in the first two quarters against Sunnyside's 15 points. Though the Sunnyside team outscored Bickleton in the second half of the game, the efforts were not enough to stop the Pirate's momentum.
Bickleton's Jerry Roberts led the team in scoring with 18 points. Sunnyside's Sam Ramos kept a near even pace with Roberts, scoring 16 points for his team.
Also scoring for Bickleton were Peter Clinton with 11 points, Franklin with six points, Daniel Clingon with five points, Justin Harvey with four points and Mitchell Powers with two points.
Coach Roberts said his team outshot Sunnyside from the free throw line. Bickleton was 22-for-38, while Sunnyside shot 7-for-12.
The Bickleton Pirates (1-4, 3-9) will head to Klickitat tomorrow (Saturday) before beginning its final week of regular season games.
