'Spirit of Sunnyside' nominees sought

The Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the annual "Spirit of Sunnyside" awards...names like Delta Aileen (Price) Bootsma, Jon Smiley, Carol Bos, Alejandra Bobadilla, Gene Carlyle, Jeff Dillon, and Bill and Lisa DeRuyter.

All of those individuals have been past recipients of awards at the annual "Spirit of Sunnyside" awards banquet.

Nominees can be an individual or couple recognized for efforts as a pioneer, health care person, educator, business owner (open six months or longer), public official or employee, youth, volunteer, hero, or for beautification to a home or business. To be eligible, a nominee must be a resident of or work in Sunnyside or Outlook.

The awards banquet will this year be held Saturday, March 12, at the Johnson Concentrate building, located on the corner of East Edison and Zillah avenues.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with a social hour at the kiki bar until 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m., and the awards presentations are slated for 7:30 p.m. A dessert auction will follow, and a silent auction is set to take place throughout the evening's events.

The theme of this year's banquet is tropical. Those attending are encouraged to wear their best Hawaiian/tropical garb.

Tickets for the event cost $30 each or $200 for a reserved table for eight.

Nomination forms can be obtained at the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce office and must be submitted no later than Friday, Feb. 25.

For more information, call the chamber at 837-5939.
