Ernie Louie Ribail, 81, of Grandview a former longtime Hermiston, Ore. resident, died on Monday, July 4, 2011, at his home in Grandview..
He was born May 21, 1930 in Sunnyside to French immigrant parents, Daniel and Lea Robert Ribail. Ernie was raised in a sheep herding family and attended school in Sunnyside, with the class of 1948.
Ernie married Mary Lee Van de Vanter in 1952, and they later divorced. In 1965 he married Betty Parmele and adopted her sons, Steve and Kelly. They later divorced and Ernie married Dovie Mattox on March 18, 1995.
He worked as a equipment operator for Pacific Power & Light for 40 years before retiring.
He was preceded in death by Dovie in March of 2004.
In June of 2004, Ernie's brother, Robert invited him to a Pioneer Picnic in Sunnyside, where he was reacquainted with an old girlfriend, Mary Lou Kearney Schut. They were married on May 7, 2005 in Sunnyside, and have lived in Grandview since.
Ernie was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Sunnyside, the Hermiston Eagles Lodge 2909, a former member of the Grace Baptist Church in Hermiston, Ore., and former member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sunnyside.
He enjoyed elk hunting, fishing and life on the Randall Martin Ranch.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Ribail of Sunnyside; sons, Steve and Kelly Ribail; stepsons, Harold Mattox and Randall Schut; stepdaughters, Chrystal Cawile, Rene' Carlson, Anita Marrs and Katrina Hagert; numerous grandchildren; and a favorite uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Dovie Ribail; his parents; sisters, Helen Maling and Aliene Gangwish; and brother, Robert Ribail.
Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 1 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery in Hermiston.
