2011 National Night Out preparations underway

Tuesday, Aug. 2, the Sunnyside Police Department will be coordinating block parties throughout Sunnyside for the city's annual National Night Out celebration.

The police department is going to be working to establish block watch groups out of the block parties that the department is facilitating.

Those who are interested in hosting a block party on Aug. 2 can attend an informational meeting at the Sunnyside Law and Justice Center on Tuesday, July 12, at 5 p.m.

The Sunnyside Police Department would like to assist more than 20 neighborhoods in hosting their own block parties this year, continuing the department's long-standing relationship and participation in the National Night Out against crime event.

The Sunnyside Police Department's mission in associating itself with the National Association of Town Watch is to accomplish four broad goals. They are heightening crime and drug prevention awareness, generating support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs, strengthening neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and sending a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
