Deadline approaches for voter registration

The clock is ticking for voters who want to participate in this year's primary election set for Aug. 16.

For qualified Washington residents, next Monday, July 18, is the standard deadline to get signed up using online registration or by regular mail, or to update your address or change your name.

Since Washington is a vote-by-mail state, voters will be mailed their ballots by Friday, July 29.

For those who miss the on-line or mail-in deadline to register for the August primary, voters also have available to them a late registration opportunity in person at the Yakima County election department.

The late registration deadline is Aug. 8 and requires the person to go to the election's office in Yakima at 128 N. Second St., Room 117. Office hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Yakima County election office can be reached at 1-800-833-0569.

The deadlines to register to vote in the Nov. 8 general election are Oct. 10 for online or mail registrations, and Oct. 31 for in-person registrations
