In response to the letter to the editor on July 6, we would like to thank the Sunnyside community for its support and the request to lead the 4th of July parade in Sunnyside. It is encouraging to see our community once again celebrate our independence by hosting this parade.
Thank you to the Boy Scouts of America for honorably carrying our nation's flag, the symbol of freedom and independence we enjoy.
Many of you may not be aware that the veterans who make up the Lower Valley Honor Guard come from all of the Lower Valley communities. Our services are available to all, but sometimes conflicts in scheduling occur. We make every effort to accommodate all.
The request to participate in the Sunnyside parade was made after our earlier commitment to another parade at the same time. In an attempt on our part to honor both, we asked for a several hour delay in the parade. It was not possible. Of course, we had to keep our earlier commitment.
It is with this unfortunate timing and conflict in schedule, that next year we hope we can all work together to coordinate times so that the Lower Valley Honor Guard can represent you in the Sunnyside parade, celebrating freedom and independence won by veterans.
