The Yakima County Auditor's office says Mabton School Board member David Rodriguez faxed in his bid for re-election, but never provided an original signature.
The result is that Rodriguez's candidate filing with the county last month was voided.
"He faxed the form, but didn't send in the original," said Nancy Tongate, a voting system program rep for Yakima County. "It's no different than a ballot. We have to have an original signature for it to be valid."
The mix-up means there are no candidates for the Mabton School Board, pos. 2 at-large seat currently held by Rodriguez.
That leaves no candidates for two of the three Mabton School board seats up for grabs on the November ballot.
The other is the District 2 seat held by Blanche Tobin, who decided not to seek re-election.
The third Mabton School Board seat on the ballot is the District 1 position held by Lupe Maldonado Jr., who filed for re-election.
As for Mabton schools' two seats without candidates, Tongate says the county will handle those like they do other positions where there are no candidates.
"We'll have a special filing period about a week after the primary results are certified on Aug. 31," she said.
