Teen victim of Mabton shooting

MABTON - Ramon Magana, 16, of Mabton was this past Saturday the victim of a shooting in Mabton.

He suffered a gunshot wound to the upper arm as a result of a drive-by shooting in the 300 block of Fourth Avenue in Mabton at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday.

Mabton Police Chief Rick Gutierrez said Magana was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Officers investigating the shooting, said Gutierrez, recovered several shell casings in the roadway at the scene of the shooting. Also, a nearby home and a vehicle parked in the area were struck by bullets.

The bullet that struck Magana, said Gutierrez, was from a .40 caliber handgun.

According to witnesses a black colored sedan was seen speeding southbound on Fourth Avenue shortly after the shooting.

Gutierrez said, "It is believed that the suspect vehicle was occupied by two male subjects of which the front passenger fired a weapon."

The suspects have not been identified, said Gutierrez.

"We are actively interviewing witnesses, who have so far been uncooperative," he said.

Magana, said Gutierrez, is a known gang member and has also been uncooperative in the investigation.

The incident is believed to be gang-related and the public is urged to contact the Mabton Police Department at 509-894-4096 with any information regarding the case.
