Sunnyside Transformation Lower Valley, also known as Transformation Sunnyside, will be hosting a town hall meeting to unite community members in tackling issues concerning Sunnyside.
The meeting, slated for next Wednesday, June 8, will be held at the Sunnyside Community Center at 6 p.m.
Sunnyside Transformation Lower Valley Director Roberto Matus said several issues will be addressed at the meeting, including how the community can work together to combat gang problems.
"We want to bring together members of the community, sharing ideas and strategies...giving a fresh approach to the issues we face," said Matus.
The meeting is free and the entire community is urged to attend.
Matus said, "There is a chorus of voices and ideas in the community. Everyone is clamoring for something to be done about the problems regarding gangs, crime and weapons."
He said Sunnyside Transformation Lower Valley wants to bring together those voices.
"We see the gang problems as an urgent concern," said Matus.
To combat the issue, he said, the community must work together, focusing on how individuals working as a group can support the police department and the neighborhoods.
"The community must work together to resolve the issues as a whole...citizens need to address the issues with a united front," said Matus.
He said everyone has a role in problem-solving and Sunnyside Transformation Lower Valley's goal for the meeting is to give everyone the opportunity to contribute and collaborate, making Sunnyside a community they can be proud to call home.
Matus said a video presentation is planned at the meeting, featuring community members expressing some ideas that may not have been shared before.
He hopes a large number of community members will attend the town hall to provide for small group discussions, as well.
Also encouraged is the attendance of both young and old, providing an array of ideas and solutions to problems faced by the community of Sunnyside.
