With the departure of Assistant Finance Director Earlene Bassett recently, the city of Sunnyside needed to fill the gap until her replacement can be found.
This past Monday night the city council approved the use of Villbrandt, Stark & Moorer, PLLC to temporarily help the city with its accounting needs.
Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Byron Olson told the council the person filling in on an interim basis will be Tim Jensen, who is charging two-thirds his normal rate for services to the city.
Jensen spoke to the council detailing his experience working as a charter class I accountant.
"I am well-schooled in public finance," he said.
Jensen said he has been helping the city, "going through things one at a time."
He said his goal is to help the city run its finances more efficiently and effectively.
When asked about his experience with the city's accounting system, EDEN, Jensen said he is learning how to use it. He said he is pleased with the system and believes it is well-suited to the city's needs.
Olson said Jensen is highly regarded and was referred by Prothman and Associates.
The city council approved a contract with Jensen's firm by unanimous consent.
