Hochhalter appointed to civil service commission

This past Monday the Sunnyside City Council was informed Ron Hochhalter, a local business man, was appointed to the civil service commission.

City Manager Mark Gervasi made the appointment, filling a vacancy on the commission.

He asked the council's consent regarding the appointment and Mayor Jim Restucci recused himself, noting Hochhalter is his father-in-law.

The remaining council members gave their consent by a 4-1 vote, with Councilman Don Vlieger being the lone council member to dissent.

He said he was uncomfortable with the appointment because a relative of a sitting council member would have authority over council.
