Fireworks prohibited 4th of July weekend

The Sunnyside Police Department wants to remind residents that fireworks are prohibited in the city of Sunnyside at all times throughout the year.

The discharging of fireworks in the city of Sunnyside is regulated under Sunnyside Municipal Code 5.42.

The illegal discharge of fireworks can warrant a $250 fine.

With Independence Day looming, it is imperative to the Sunnyside Police Department that everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July celebration. Officers urge everyone to be mindful of the laws in whatever area you may be celebrating.

"Fireworks often illicit the same initial response from officers that gunshots do, this is a serious matter and will be treated as such.

"Please make sure that you celebrate in a safe, fun and legal way," said Sunnyside Deputy Police Chief Phil Schenck.
