A 20-year-old Grandview man was shot while walking in the area of South Euclid Road near the Grange building near Grandview last night (Monday).
Yakima County Sheriff's deputies were called to Sunnyside Community Hospital last night at 9:27 p.m., when the gunshot victim was admitted. The man, who was identified by the sheriff's office as Rey Anaya, told deputies he was out getting some exercise when a black SUV drove past him.
The vehicle turned around and the driver extinguished the lights, according to Anaya. The vehicle then started towards Anaya and someone in the SUV fired a shotgun, but missed. Anaya told deputies that another suspect then began firing at him using a handgun.
Stew Graham, chief of detectives at the Yakima County Sheriff's office, said Anaya suffered a flesh wound to his left arm. He was treated and released from Sunnyside Community Hospital.
Graham said Anaya is an admitted gang member and suspects the incident is gang related. Deputies searched the area where Anaya claims to have been shot, but Graham said deputies were unable to locate any evidence.
A theft was also reported to the sheriff's office on Monday. Deputies were called to the 1100 block of West Edison Road near Sunnyside at 9:11 a.m. A horse was reported stolen.
Since yesterday in the Lower Yakima Valley deputies have also dealt with two animal problems, one report of domestic violence, one report of physical abuse and one report of racing. Deputies also provided three agency assists.
