Duane O. Carr, 77, a longtime Sunnyside resident, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011, in Sunnyside.

Duane was born April 20, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Delmar O. and Lucille (Whitmer) Carr.

He received his education in Carson, Iowa.

On April 12, 1952 he married the love of his life, Lillyan Warren in Carson.

Duane was drafted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Following his military duty he returned to Oakland, Iowa, where he and Lillyan resided until moving to Sunnyside in 1958.

Duane worked in construction, helping build many of the dams on the Columbia River.

In 1993 he retired from the Hanford Project.

Duane was a member of Carpenters Local #1849 of Pasco and a life-time member of the Sunnyside VFW.

He enjoyed golfing; watching all sports, traveling to Arizona for the winters and most of all fishing with his grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillyan Carr of Sunnyside; one daughter, Trudie Eberle of Sunnyside; three sons, Del (Debra) Carr and Dana (Nelda) Carr, all of Sunnyside and Tracy (Nancy) Carr of Yakima; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carolyn and JoAnn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
