No one hit in Sunnyside drive-by shooting last night

Sunnyside police responded to a report of gunfire in the 700 block of McClain Drive yesterday (Wednesday) just after 6:30 p.m.

Police determined that the shooting is gang related and the gunfire originated from a vehicle traveling on Beckner Alley. Four shots were fired at an apartment but no one was injured in the shooting.

Bullets were recovered at the scene.

The apartment's occupant, Martina M. Ramirez, 21, was taken into custody on charges of knowingly making false statements to a public servant, two counts.

This case is still being investigated. Anyone with information on the shooting is encouraged to call 509-836-6200.

In other news, Sunnyside police responded to two theft reports yesterday. The first occurred at Fiesta Foods at about 3:45 p.m. The suspect was seen running west-bound on Yakima Valley Highway.

Another theft occurred in the 100 block of Parkland Drive just before 5:40 p.m. A Sunnyside resident reported a Kenwood stereo had been stolen from his Honda Accord sometime during the night.

A hit and run accident was also reported yesterday just before 4:15 p.m. The incident was reported at the corner of East Lincoln Avenue and South 16th Street. The caller reported a 1990s Chevy Silverado hit her vehicle and took off south-bound on the Sunnyside Mabton Highway.

Sunnyside police also responded to six reports of suspicious circumstances, four animal complaints, three harassment claims and traffic problems, a runaway report, a non-injury accident, a report of malicious mischief, an automatic alarm, a citizen dispute, disorderly conduct and a juvenile problem.

In addition, the department received four informational calls, one welfare check request, one citizen assist call and served one arrest warrant.
