The Lady Vikings were able to pull ahead in the fifth inning by a run, but Royal battled back to tie the score at 4-4.
The final inning of the opener was going Mabton's way with three runs for the team. However, the Knights scored two more runs than the home team to end the game 9-7.
Mabton had six hits and Royal had eight. The Lady Vikes also had six walks and five errors, whereas the Knights were walked four time and committed four errors.

Pitcher Jazzee Sustaita had two strike-outs and walked four hitters with back-up from Chavez, the catcher.
"The first game went real well...then Royal rallied in the seventh (inning) for five runs," said Mabton Coach Jesus Sustaita.
He said errors are what hurt the Lady Vikings and "Royal took advantage of our mistakes."
Sustaita continued, "The girls did a great job and didn't give up in the bottom of the seventh (inning)."
The nightcap didn't go a full seven innings with the 10-run rule in effect.
Royal started that game with a one-run lead (3-2), but continued batting away, while the Lady Vikes battled errors and walks that "haunted" them.
Royal was able to score two more runs in the second inning, four in the third and another five in the fifth inning. Mabton, on the other hand was only able to add one more run to its tally in the fourth inning.
"Royal took advantage of our mistakes," said Sustaita of the four errors.
"Royal also pounded 10 hits in the game," he said.
The Knights were walked 11 times to Mabton's one walk in the nightcap, as well.
"Even though we had four errors, they happened at the wrong time. They happened when runners were on base...Royal had no errors," said Sustaita.
Pitching for the Lady Vikes was Mela Alcala, who had two strike-outs and eight walks until Jazzee Sustaita relieved her in the fourth inning. Sustaita had one strike-out and three runs.
Mabton's Yenifer Fuentes had two RBIs and was 1-for-3 batting. Diaz had another RBI off her one hit. Also connecting the bat with the ball one time apiece were Chavez, Sustaita, Cruz, Gutierrez and Teresa Aceves.
