Sunnyside plans spring clean-up

The city of Sunnyside has set Saturday, April 23, as the date for its 20th annual spring clean-up.

Working in partnership with Yakima Waste Systems, Inc., the city will offer a free collection station to citizens only.

The drop-off point for disposal is adjacent to the Sunnyside Municipal Pool on Fifth Street. The service will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This program provides the city with the opportunity to work cooperatively with city residents to get rid of items that do not conform to conventional collection routes such as mattresses, furniture, car tires, appliances and yard waste.

The city is also offering this year by appointment the pickup of bagged trash for seniors and disabled persons at their homes. The qualifications are 62 years or older or disabled.

The free collection station is free to City of Sunnyside residents only. Other restrictions include no commercial loads. In addition vehicle batteries, automotive parts, hazardous wastes (chemicals, oils, solvents, paints, insecticides, etc.) will not be accepted.

Car tires and appliances will be accepted. A fee of $1 per car tire and $5 per appliance will be collected. Tires will be accepted if they are on or off a wheel.
