More colder-than-normal temperatures predicted here

According to information received by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center, the outlook for May calls for below normal temperatures and above normal precipitation.

Normal highs for Sunnyside rise from 72.8 degrees at the start of May to 76.6 degrees at the end of May.

Normal lows rise from 44.2 degrees to 47.6 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.56 inches.

Preliminary data from NOAA's National Weather Service in Pendleton, Ore. reveal temperatures in Sunnyside averaged much colder than normal during the month of April.

The average temperature in April was 45.1 degrees, which was 7.8 degrees below normal.

High temperatures in the Sunnyside area last month averaged 58.1 degrees, which was 8.6 degrees below normal. The highest was 73 degrees on April 2.

Low temperatures here for April averaged 32.1 degrees, which was 7.1 degrees below normal. The lowest was 22 degrees on April 7.

There were 12 days in April with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 0.34 inches during April, which was 0.19 inches below normal.

Measurable precipitation (at least .01 inch) was received on four days last month, with the heaviest (0.19 inches) reported on April 26.

Precipitation this year has reached 2.03 inches, which is 0.30 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at Sunnyside has been 6.04 inches, which is 1.32 inches above normal.

This was the coldest April on record in the Sunnyside area.
