Thea Postma Laverman, 97, of Sunnyside went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 5, 2011, in Sunnyside.

Thea was born Dec. 21, 1913 in Engelum, Friesland, The Netherlands.

On May 13, 1937 she married Frank Laverman in Hijum, The Netherlands and lived there until 1955 when Thea, Frank and their seven children emigrated to Outlook.

Thea attended Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church for 56 years.

She was a volunteer at the Sunnyside Senior Center for many years and also at Hillcrest Manor, where she helped lead the hymn sing for the residents there.

Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting which she lovingly gave to her family and friends. While Frank was alive they enjoyed fishing and camping.

Frank passed away July 15,1975, but Thea was never alone, with her seven children surrounding her with their love.

Thea is survived by her sons, Pete (Marjean) Laverman and Edward (Carol) Laverman of Sunnyside; daughters, Audrey (Jerry) Burgess and Betty Jo (Perry) Vlahos, all of Yakima, Maria (Clarence) Roosendaal of Sunnyside, Corrina (Roger) Riehn of Zillah and Tressa (Norman) King of Bend Ore. Thea was blessed with 18 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Laverman; brother, Sidney Postma; and five brothers and sisters in The Netherlands.

Graveside services will be held Monday, May 9, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, with memorial services to follow at 3 p.m. at Sunnyside Christian Reformed Church, with Pastor Jelmer Groenewold, officiating
